Chair’s Report
SWIMMING
College pool still not guaranteed to remain open, so keeping a stake in both pools (Larkswood and College). Usage of College pool is increasing
CYCLING
The less-fast and mountain bike sessions very popular, thanks to leaders for running the sessions unpaid. Turbo sessions - small but committed group.
RUNNING
Saturday run sessions - continue to be very popular with rota coaching session working out well. Wednesday track sessions not so popular. It is hoped these sessions will pick up when the evenings are lighter and warmer.
GRAND PRIX 2010
Not as many people entered the GP races as previous years, but there was a more social feel (camping, dinners, etc).
2011: added more races to the series to enable people to have a greater choice to be able to race some of the fixtures. The committee will review the success of this change during/after the season.
DRAGON SLAYER
Many thanks to Martin for organising Dragon Slayer – another successful race.
This years race is 10th April 2011 and Justin McDermott to help Martin with the organisation this year, and hopefully to take it over next year.
TEAM RELAYS
Team Relays excellent event and a volunteer is needed to organise team entries for 2011 as Siobhan and Martin are away in holiday. The relays are on August Bank Holiday 2011.
WEBSITE
Website is a fantastic achievement. Lots of hard work went into getting it up and running.
Thanks to Stel and Martin a new and modern website is now a reality.
SOCIAL EVENTS
The summer BBQ went well and was well attended.
Sunday night drinks event also really well-attended - another will be organised. Tuesday night drinks post swimming once a month may be re started.
Thank you to our sponsors' continued support and a big thank you to the committee.
Treasurer's Report
Accounts signed by Lawrence and Siobhan.
There was a suggestion to buy bike tools for club members to use. However a very wide range would be needed to ensure that most bike could be accommodated.
David Lawrence has a good range of bike tools and offered to make his tools available to members.
People would have to fix their bike at his house and not take the tools away.
Women's Captain Report
A good year for lady membership but a shame more women didn't enter Grand Prix races.
Need to encourage more women to do the Grand Prix in 2011.
Four women did IMs: Claire Brady, Jo Rodda, Bernie Wolfe (did 2!) Linda Blakey.
Jo came second in an ultra marathon in Andolusia and Bernie won the Ben Nevis triathlon
Men's Captian Report
Some good performances from men – especially Neil Gile's and Allan Leighton.
Some new members produced fantastic performances which shows how quickly people can improve.
Need to focus more on Grand Prix - comradery at these events should be encouraged.
Website
The format for the new website is there and the aim is to develop further and to add members section/forum as a way of improving communication between club members.
Photos on entry page – the aim is to keep them upto date
Let Martin have any pictures you think should go on the site and also ask Martin if you want to post anything.
Committee for 2011
All officers stood again:
Chairman - Siobhan
Welfare Officer - Siobhan
Club Coach - Dawn
Treasurer - Lawrence
Secretary - Natasha
Male Captain - David
Female Captain - Lorraine
Stats Person - David
Event Organiser - Martin
Website Coordinator - Martin
Club Kit - Pete
All officers were re elected
Training Sessions
The possibility of a medium cycle ride was discussed (somewhere in between the less-fast and the super-fast).
Decided not to organise this officially, but to encourage members to turn up at the Castle at 8:30am for unofficial medium paced ride.
Have over 150 club members and the majority of them do not attend organised training sessions. Are the club providing the right training at the right time? There was the suggestion to send a questionnaire to members re the sessions. This will be considered.
Grand Prix Series 2011
Finalised prior to AGM - list on website.
More members to be encouraged to do the races – they are good fun!
Agreement that committee should choose GP races – however suggestions from members re good races to be considered for future season will be much appreciated. Contact Siobhan or one of the committee members if you think a race should be added next year.
Ironman 2012
It was suggested that UK race is considered as the Olympics 2012 are to be hosted in UK.
Consensus was it would need to be an official IM branded race.
Agreed for committee to choose club IM race for 2012.
Dragon Slayer
10th April 2011
Needing sponsors (any ideas welcome!)
Martin to publicise to ELT members as will need volunteers
The event is in the London League so it was suggested ELT support these races. List will be sent around membership.
